Abstract
786,539. Cooling electric motors. KLEIN, SCHANZLIN & BECKER AKT.-GES. Sept. 21, 1955 [Sept. 22, 1954; Nov. 10, 1954; June 18, 1955], No. 26982/55. Class 35. I a pump unit for hot liquids with the pump impeller on the rotor shaft, the transfer of heat from the pump to the motor is minimised by providing internal passages for externally supplied coolant in the common end cover between the pump and motor compartments. As shown, liquid from the air gap traverses passages 6, 13 in the shaft through the lower bearing and the sleeve 34 carrying the intermediate member 23, flows upwards over the exterior of shaft extension 9 to space 15 and outlet 29 from which it is returned to the motor casing. The member 23 has concentric annular ducts through which external liquid is passed from inlet 31 to exit 33. The shaft extension ducts are so propotioned as to have an impelling action on the liquid.
