Abstract

811,392. Cooling electric motors. CHEM-PUMP CORPORATION. Oct. 5, 1956 [April 6, 1956], No. 30492/56. Class 35. A motor-pump unit, particularly for hot liquids, has a connecting neck between the pump and motor housings and a sleeve dividing the latter into stator and rotor compartments, the stator being surrounded by a cooling fluid conduit having connections to the neck and to one of the bearings in the rotor chamber. As shown, fluid traversing coil 45 is circulated via pipe 35 leading to the casing neck, through ducts 30a and 56a in the bearings, over the corrosion resistant rotor covering and back to coil 45 by auxiliary impeller 78 while other fluid such as water is passed through the chamber 39 enclosing the coil 45. The pump cover 32 is extended where it surrounds the shaft to provide a flame trap 34.
