Abstract

565,271. Dynamo-electric machines. PULSOMETER ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and GIBBS, B. H. Sept. 29, 1942, No. 13638. [Class 35] [Also in Group XXVI] A pumping unit comprising motor F and pump J is mounted in an opening in the wall E of a fuel &c. tank by means of a flange A<SP>1</SP> so that only the lower end A is outside the tank, and passages K leading from the base through the pump casing to the motor provide for the circulation of a cooling medium round the motor by means of a fan F<SP>2</SP> driven by the motor. The inlet H<SP>1</SP> to the pump may be below or above the impeller J. Baffles K<SP>3</SP>, K<SP>4</SP> of gauze may be provided in the passage K to arrest foreign matter and serve as a flame trap. The electric conductors for the motor may be housed in the outlet passage for the cooling medium. A byepass valve G<SP>1</SP> between inlet and outlet closes automatically when pressure is developed in the pump.
