Abstract

577,164. Centrifugal pumps. PULSOMETER ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and PILKINGTON, L. G. Sept. 14, 1944, No. 17581. [Class 110 (i)] A motor driven centrifugal pump of the kind which is fixed in the floor of the tank containing fluid to be pumped comprises a lower portion which is secured in said floor and an upper portion forming a unit, comprising the motor and the impeller, which can from above be introduced into the tank and secured to the lower portion. In the form shown, the part A fixed to the floor B of the tank comprises inlet passages A<2>, an outlet passage A<4>, an emergency by-pass valve A<6> and a conical housing A<1> to receive the upper part. The upper part comprises a high frequency squirrel cage motor E<1>, a punch impeller D and an inner pump casing C which fits into the conical housing. The casing C is provided with pins C<1> which engage with bayonet fastening slots in the housing A<1>. The upper part has a screwed aperture in the boss E<4> for receiving a lifting rod J<1> and a tubular spanner H is used for turning the upper part to engage the bayonet fastening. In place of the bayonet fastening the upper part may be screw-threaded into the lower part or be secured thereto by studs or bolts which can be loosened from above. The leads K of the motor pass through a gastight gland in a cover in the roof of the tank.
