Abstract

697,749. Centrifugal pumps. SELF-PRIMING PUMP & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., MEREDEW, G. C., and STEVENS, G. C. Sept. 13, 1951 [Feb. 26, 1951], No. 4682/51. Class 110(i) In an electrically driven pump unit, the pump is located within a tank for the liquid to be pumped, and the motor, or a major portion thereof, is located outside the tank and has a jacket through which the pump discharge is taken, to cool the motor. The pump has a vertical impeller shaft driven through gearing 3, 4 by an electric motor 5. The pump discharge passes by way of a passage (not shown) to the interior of a jacket 11 surrounding the motor 5. From the jacket, the liquid passes to a discharge pipe by way of one of two alternative connections (not shown). The unit is secured to a side wall 21 of a fuel tank around a hole 22 by means of a cover plate 20 which is clamped between the jacket 11 and the pump casing by studs 18. In other respects the pump is similar to that described in Specification 670,226.
