[Also in Group XXXV] In a motor-driven fuel-pump, the motor armature core has skewed slots u on its periphery serving to circulate fuel through the motor casing, for cooling and to prevent the formation of gummy deposits. These slots may be the armature winding slots. Liquid is drawn from the outlet of the pump impeller d through the clearance round the shaft i and is returned to the pump inlet ic by a duct v. The bearings o, h are of graphite and are lubricated by the circulated fuel. A wire gauze flame-trap y separates the motor casing from the pump. The motor stator is permanently magnetic.
