Abstract

1438077 Mounting arrangements for dynamoelectric machines SUNDSTRAND CORP 28 Jan 1974 [26 Jan 1973] 3888/74 Heading H2A A gas compression apparatus 10 comprises a support plate 15 on which is mounted both an electric motor 14 and a centrifugal compressor 18. The rotor of the electric motor is mounted in bearings on the support plate independently of the stator. A rotor shaft 32 of the motor drives the centrifugal compressor through stepgearing 90. The compressor includes a back shroud 42 machined directly on the support plate 15 and a volute 43 formed within the support plate. Above the impeller 46 is mounted an inlet nozzle 58. The support plate 15 may also include an outlet passage 62 communicating with the volute 43. The step-gearing 90 comprises a small gear 53 having thrust surfaces 55 and 56 which transfer upward unbalanced load on the impeller to main bearings 29, 30. The apparatus includes a housing 11 in two parts sandwiching the support plate 15. Sound insulating gasket material may be included in the sandwich.
