Abstract

1328082 Mixed-flow fans AIRSCREWWEYROC Ltd 24 Aug 1970 [22 Aug 1969] 42112/69 Heading F1C [Also in Division H2] A mixed-flow fan comprises an impeller 8 having blades 12 supported on a generally frusto-conical central position and discharging directly into the atmosphere or a plenum chamber. A mounting plate 1 which is secured to the wall of an enclosure from which air is to be extracted carries inlet vanes 4 and a bearing housing 5 which may support a motor stator 10 co-operating with an external rotor 9 carried by the impeller. The impeller blades 12, which are rearwardly inclined (preferably rearwardly curved), are surrounded by a fixed shroud 2 on a rotating shroud fixed to the blades. The electric motor may be replaced by a hydraulic motor. Belt (or chain) drive may be used instead, particularly if the fan is used for engine cooling, and the impeller may in this case be journelled on a stationary spindle.
