Abstract

849,744. Helico-centrifugal fans. BLACKMAN Ltd., K., and HUMPHREY, D. Jan. 30, 1959 [Jan. 30, 1958], No. 3148/58. Class 110 (1). The air inlet 11 of a fan is of Venturi form, the impeller being located in the widening part of the Venturi beyond the throat. The impeller blades 14, mounted on a conical hub 13 and surrounded by a conical shroud 15, are of compound curvature such that they impart to the air first an axial and then a centrifugal component of flow. The air is discharged in the axial direction by guide vanes 22 which are flanged for attachment to the cylindrical casing 10 of the fan and to the housing 23 of the driving motor. Diffusion is provided in the annular space between the casing 10 and a fairing 24. The housing 23 may be merely a support for a separate shaft and bearing assembly for the impeller.
