Abstract

983,469. Axial-flow fans. A. DE JONG N.V. March 8, 1963 [March 9, 1962], No. 9297/63. Heading F1C. In an axial-flow fan of the type comprising a ring of stationary guide blades behind the rotor hub and adjacent a diffuser having a straight axial outlet, the guide blades are curved and twisted, with concentric cross-sections decreasing in size radially outwardly from the fan axis, and extend substantially fully from inlet to outlet of the diffuser, the leading edges of the guide blades being inclined rearwardly, radially outwardly from the fan axis, and reaching the wall of the diffuser near its outlet opening. The fan shown comprises a casing 2 which is mounted in a conduit by means of flanges 3, 4. Curved and twisted guide blades 13 of laminar or profiled form and tapering from root to tip are used to support the motor casing 12 within the diffuser 6. The leading edges 14 of the guide blades are inclined rearwardly from root to tip, at an angle which may be about 40 degrees with respect to the fan axis, and join the diffuser wall near the outlet opening.
