Abstract

In a centrifugal fan impeller having less than sixteen blades of full length, each channel formed between the blades is provided with at least one short blade uniformly dividing a portion of the channel into partial channels, each short blade being 40% to 80% (preferably 50% to 70%) as long as a main blade and having its outer edge located at a radical distance from the impeller axis less than that of the outer edge of a main blade and its inner edge spaced from the impeller axis by a radial distance equal to or greater than that of the inner edge of a main blade. This increases the efficiency and reduces the noise. In the case of curved blades, the length measured is the chordal length. Where the main blades are continued radially inwards and attached to the impeller hub, the length considered is the length (or chordal length) of the blade portion lying outside the impeller eye.
