Abstract
1,121,138. Fan motors. AMETEK Inc. 2 Nov., 1965 [21 Dec., 1964], No. 46342/65. Heading H2A. [Also in Division F1] In a fan, e.g. for corrosive or hot gases, fumes and explosive gaseous mixtures, having a housing 10, Fig. 1, provided with two segmental flow ducts 12, 13 each containing flow straightening vanes (31), Fig. 6 (not shown), the ducts are separated by a protective transverse chamber 11 for the driving means, e.g. a motor 16 or a belt and pulley, for a mixed-flow impeller 9. The impeller may have blades 35 on its under surface to draw air through chamber 11 and through an annular gap around the impeller hub to cool the driving motor 16 and prevent leakage of destructive fumes into the chamber 11. The motor and impeller unit may be slid out of the chamber 11 on tracks 38, 39 after removal of one half 14A of the conical inlet portion 14 of the housing, the trough 28 and a part (2 , 7), Fig. 5 (not shown), of the upstream wall of the chamber. The tracks may be omitted and the motor and impeller unit bolted to a plate.
