999,038. Axial-flow fans. SVENSKA FLAKTFABRIKEN A.B. July 8, 1964 [July 12, 1963], No. 28192/64. Heading F1C. In an axial-flow fan for dust-laden gases, comprising adjustable impeller blades adjusted by an axially-displaceable device projecting into the impeller hub and enclosed in a stationary central body mounted at the outlet side of the hub and having a diameter corresponding to the hub diameter, air under pressure is supplied to prevent the entry of dust-laden gas through the gap between the central body and the hub. Each impeller blade 4 is journalled in bearings 8 in the impeller hub 2 and provided with a crank 9 having a roller 10 engaging a groove 11 on a disc 12 which can be moved axially by means of a control shaft 13 to adjust the pitch of the blades. The control means (not shown) connected to the control shaft 13 is enclosed in a stationary central casing 14 disposed at the outlet side of the impeller and having a diameter corresponding to that of the hub 2. The front wall 14a of the central casing 14 is provided with an annular chamber 15 provided with seal rings 18a, 18b engaging a flange 19 on a cover disc 20 for the hub 2. Air under pressure is supplied through a pipe 16 to the chamber 15, from which air leaking around the seal ring 18a passes outwardly through the gap 23 between the hub 2 and the central casing 14 to prevent the dust-laden gas conveyed by the fan from passing inwardly through the gap and depositing dust on the pitch control means. The blades 4 and bearings 8 are kept clean by supplying air through ducts 24, 25 to the annular gap 26 around the base plate 6 of each blade.
