Abstract

1279912 Fan motors ROTRON Inc 9 Jan 1970 [10 Jan 1969] 1219/70 Heading H2A [Also in Division F1] A centrifugal fan for use in narrow spaces, e.g. of electronic packages, comprises an electric motor stator 16 and rotor 12 mounted in a housing 18 which has a rear wall 54 and a front wall 69 with a central opening 70 allowing an axial air flow into its interior, the rotor including an outer portion concentrically surrounding the stator and carrying on its periphery an integral air impeller 14 comprising a backplate 28 extending radially from adjacent the rear end of the rotor and from whose front face is cantilevered a series of blades 30, extending towards the opening 70; the radially inner part 31 of the backplate front face is radially curved to guide the axial air flow through the impeller to a radial outlet direction while allowing the air to flow over a substantial axial distance along the rotor outer surface, and the back-plate has a thickened radially inner portion 29 to add rigidity to its junction with the rotor. The housing is of volute shape to provide a centrifugal outlet 66 and has mounting lugs 56, the stator has A.C. windings 33 on a core 32, and the rotor is rotatable on a shaft 44 borne by a cylindrical bearing 46 press-fitted into the stator and by thrust washers 48, 50.
