488,984. Screw fans; turbines. STEVENS, A. H. (Sturtevant Co., B. F.) Feb. 4, 1938, No. 3562. [Classes 110 (i) and 110 (iii)] In a motor-driven blower assembly with vertical shaft, an upper bearing 11 of the shaft 12 supports the weight of the rotor assembly and a lower bearing 24 supports part of the weight of the stationary structure of the motor. The motor shown is a steam turbine 22 with a rotor 21 carried on the shaft 12 and the casing together with the air guide 23 supported on the bearing 24, the steam inlet and outlet pipes supporting part of the weight. The upper bearing 11 is carried by a frame 10 connected by stream-lined cross-members 8 to angle plates 9. The cover 38, hub 16, and guide members 23, 31 form a stream-lined passage.
