Abstract

Also in Division F1] In an electrically driven centrifugal pump installation having passages 13 in the rotor 7, passages 11 in the wall of a forward bearing support 5 between the rotor and the pump, and a chamber 17 between the forward bearing support and the pump impeller 3, which is connected by at least one bore 18 in the pump casing to the intake 19 of the pump, stationary vanes 21 are provided on the forward bearing support adjacent the rotor so as to co-operate . with projections 20 on the rotor 7 to provide a flow of liquid from the rotor chamber through some of the passages 11 and a flow in the opposite direction of substantially particle free liquid through the remaining passages into the rotor chamber. The projection 20 may be in the form of rivets or screws as may be the fixed vanes 21. The bores 11 in the forward bearing support 5 may be of circular or slot form and equally or unequally spaced from the fixed vanes 21 (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown). The passages 13 in the rotor are in the form of slots. Operation.-The pump is filled with liquid and any trapped air in the rotor chamber 16 is driven by the moving projections 20 to the rear part 14 of the motor and through the passages 13 such that an air bubble collects in chamber 15 around shaft 4. The vanes 21 break this air into an air-water mixture so as to enable it to pass into chamber 17 where the air goes through the ventilating bores 12 and any dirt particles are removed via bore 18 into the stream of liquid conveyed by the pump through intake 19.
