Abstract
895,616. Centrifugal pumps. HARLAND, R. F. March 4, 1960 [March 9, 1959], No. 7755/60. Class 110 (1). [Also in Group XXXV] An integral electric motor and centrifugal pump has the stator embedded in a composition resistant to corrosion by the liquid pumped and is so arranged that the main fluid flow is through the motor to cool it. The pump, Fig. 1, comprises a cylindrical main housing 10 surrounding a laminated cone structure 12 and windings 11 which are embedded in an epoxy type plastic resin compound 11A to form a solid toroidal shaped body. Housing end members 14, 15 are secured to the housing 10 by bolts 32. The end members 14, 15 have hub bearing housings 16, 19, provided with fluid passages 17, 20, which support bearing sleeves 18, 21 of self-lubricating carbon graphite. A shaft 22 mounted in the bearings 18, 21 carries a rotor carrier 23 which support the armature 25 and a centrifugal impeller 40. The carrier 23 has passages 24 which co-operate with the passages 17, 20 to form a path for fluid from the intake 49 to the eye of the impeller 40. The fluid may also pass through gap 36 and over inner surface of stator. Thrust bearings 34, 35 co-operate with the bearings 18, 21, to maintain the carrier 23 central. The laminations 25 are also embedded in an epoxy resin, O-rings 30, 31, 39 are provided to seal the housing 10. The impeller housing 44 is bolted to the end member 15 and the joint sealed by an 0-ring 48. In a modification. Fig. 3 (not shown), the bolts 32 are arranged outside the housing 10. In another modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), a cylindrical liner is placed on the inner face of the stator.
