Abstract

1,141,205. Centrifugal pumps. MICROELECTRIC A. G. March 25, 1966 [March 25, 1965], No. 13185/66. Heading F1C. [Also in Divisions G1 and H2] A pumping unit comprising a centrifugal pump driven by a planar air gap electric motor, includes a rotary regulating valve 36, Fig. 1, operated by a hand wheel 39. The valve has a pair of diametrically-opposed sealing recesses 50 with sealing rings 52 therein which, when the valve is in the position shown, isolate the pump housing from the pumping circuit. The valve may be rotated 180 degrees to reverse the flow direction. The width of an outlet orifice (53), Fig. 4 (not shown), in the circumferential surface of the valve, may vary continuously or in steps to provide sensitive regulation of the pump delivery when the valve is rotated. Contrary to the arrangement shown, the pump may have several inlet and outlet conduits, e. g. two inlets and one common outlet. When the inlet and outlet conduits are closed by the valve, the stator housing 2 and stationary shaft 15 carrying rotor 17, 18 and impeller 19 may be removed as one unit for cleaning, inspection and replacement. The stator housing is sealed by a diaphragm 8 and is filled with an insulation material 12 such as synthetic resin or silicon rubber. The impeller and rotor are rigidly attached and are mounted on a bearing 16 and a conical thrust bearing 23. Cooling and lubricating liquid is delivered to these bearings through passages 61 and a bore 62. A filter 70 is provided. Unsticking of the impeller can be achieved, after removal of a plug 45, by engaging a screwdriver in a slot 63 and turning. Alternatively, the impeller may be freed by the hand wheel after engagement of a frictional or a tongue and groove connection (67, 69), Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), between bosses on the valve and impeller, such connection being made by axial movement of the hand wheel against the action of a spring. A frictional connection enables the direction of rotation to be checked.
