Abstract
1,058,886. Thermal switches. PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN N.V. March 31, 1964 [April 3, 1963], No. 13133/64. Heading H2B. A thermal cut-out switch comprises a leaf spring 4 and a bi-metal strip 13 both secured by a rivet 6 to a support 1, the bi-metal strip carrying a locking pin 15 shaped as shown. which pin passes through an aperture 11 in the spring 4. A push-button 28 engages the bimetal strip and when pushed causes the collar 18 of the pin 15 to engage behind a plate 25, whereby the leaf spring and bi-metal strip are locked in position under stress. This position is released only when there is a sufficient rise in the ambient temperature for the bi-metal strip to curve upwardly and thus disengage the collar 18 from the plate 25, whereby the spring 4 returns itself and the bi-metal strip to the dotted position shown. Electrical contact is made or broken between the leaf-spring 4 and a contact plate 8. The aperture in the support 1 through which the rivet 6 passes is slit-shaped so that the bi-metal strip can be adjusted longitudinally prior to riveting to ensure that the switch operates at the correct temperature.
