Abstract
891,987. Thermal switches. SIGNAL-STAT CORPORATION. May 4, 1959 [May 12, 1958], No. 15222/59. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XXXVIII]. A flasher for use in motor vehicles (see Group XXXVIII) comprises an insulating base 11 having prong terminals 14 and 16 secured by rivets 12 and 13. The rivet 12 carries a bimetal strip 20 having a magnetic strip 25 extending from its free end with a contact 21 thereon to co-operate with a relatively fixed contact 22 carried on a spring 23 attached to rivet 13. A rigid bar 24 overlies most of spring 23, and a permanent magnet 30 is mounted in or on base 11 under the strip 25 to hold contacts 21, 22 normally closed. Current flowing through strip 20 heats it and eventually the strip 25 is forced away from magnet 30 to open contacts 21, 22 with a snap action, the contact 22 being restrained by spring 23 engaging the bar 24. In a modification (Figs. 5 to 8, not shown), the contact 22 is mounted directly on rivet 13 and the magnetic strip 25 is attached to strip 20 at an angle to bring contact 21 over contact 22.
