Abstract
1,044,428. Electric irons. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS-G.m.b.H. Aug. 3, 1965, No. 33170/65. Heading D1A. In an electrically heated iron, timing means is wound up by movement of the iron in use which deenergizes the iron after an interval when it is left unused but switched-on. As shown, the iron is heated by a spiral element 2 controlled by temperature regulator 5 comprising a bimetallic strip 7 operating through a plunger 8 on a snap action spring 9. The circuit of elements 2 is completed by contacts 11a, 12a on springs 11, 12 which are clamped at one end. The free end of spring 12 is connected, through an omega spring 13, with a spring 14 whose free end 14a engages a ratchet wheel 15. Wheel 15 is biased anti-clockwise by a spring which is wound up by a pendulum 17 operating, when the iron is in use, through an escapement. If the iron is left switched on and stationary, wheel 15 runs down until the edge 15b of the next tooth engages end 14a so that eventually spring 13 snaps over and separates contacts 11a, 12a. The element 2 can not be re-energized until end 14a is disengaged.
