Abstract
1,041,368. Thermal switches. IDEAL CORPORATION. March 17, 1964 [April 25, 1963], No. 11207/64. Heading H2B. A thermal switch comprises a resilient vane 14 which is welded to a mounting member, at 42, and a thermally expansible pull member, comprising a resistive strip 20, which, when cold, causes the vane 14 to bow with its concave side towards it, so as to close contacts 46, 48. When the strip 20 is heated by current passing from terminal 28 through strip 20, plate 14, contacts 46, 48 to terminal 32, it expands and allows vane 14 to return to its natural setting wherein it is bowed in the opposite direction, whereupon the contacts 46, 48 are separated. The strip 20 then cools and draws the vane 14 back to its original position. The vane 14 has a slot 12 therein to provide a side strip 16 which is crimped to provide a means of adjusting the operating characteristics of the vane.
