Abstract

1,045,916. Ratchet gearing. CONTROLS CO. OF AMERICA. Aug. 13, 1964 [Sept. 7, 1963], No. 35418/63. Heading F2Q. [Also in Divisions D1 and H2] Switch operating cams 10, Fig. 4 (not shown), for a washing machine are driven by a ratchet wheel 11 stepped onwards by one tooth at a time by a reciprocating sprung pawl 12 on the end of a rocking arm 14, Fig. 1 (not shown), sprung against a driving cam 20 driven by an electric motor 22, and disengageable for a set period of each driven cam rotation. During the static period of the ratchet wheel, the pawl 12 is held out of ratchet tooth engagement by a sprung mask 26, having similar engageable teeth 26b, movable transversely and rotatably on the ratchet wheel shaft 27 and actuated through a toothed connection 26c-34c by a slidable link 34 actuated against a spring 35 by a rocking arm 30 operated by a cam 33 fast with the ratchet wheel 11. The pawl drives mask 26 four steps, without ratchet wheel rotation, and with the connecting teeth 26c ratcheting over teeth 34c on link 34 until the mask is pulled out of engagement with the link 34 by a spring 37 to drop the pawl 12 into engagement with the ratchet wheel 11. The cam 33 then allows the spring 35 to pull link 34 downwards (see Fig. 3, not shown) and the mask 26 is pulled back into toothed engagement with link 34 against a stop 26d thereon, ready for further disengagement of pawl 12.
