Abstract
1455858 Digital clocks GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 28 Feb 1974 [8 March 1973] 9062/74 Heading G3T [Also in Division G4] In a digital display device, e.g. a clock, having a rotary indicator such as minutes drum 38 carrying a sequence of numerals and attached to a ratchet wheel 56 which co-operates with a spring-loaded pawl 90 to hold the drum in its sequential display positions, the drum is driven by a finger 74 on a member 76 which revolves on a shaft 78 spaced from the wheel 56, the finger also acting on the pawl 90 to lift it away from the ratchet wheel while the finger engages one of the wheel teeth to advance the drum, and then releasing the pawl which engages the next tooth of the ratchet wheel. This is stated to reduce noise and driving torque. As shown in Fig. 8 the finger 74 is in engagement with a surface 108 of the pawl and is about to rotate the latter anti-clockwise against spring 102 to free notch 92 of the pawl from tooth 66 which is then drivingly engaged by the finger. A further surface 110 of the pawl ensures its gradual release. The clock is driven by a synchronous motor (8), Fig. 2 (not shown) and is generally as in Specification 145-5859.
