Abstract
637,763. Ratchet gearing. GUARDIAN ELECTRIC MANUFACTURING CO. Feb. 27, 1948, No. 6040. Convention date, Oct. 21, 1940. [Class 80 (iii)] In a step-by-step ratchet mechanism a ratchet wheel 30 is driven by a reciprocable driving member, such as the armature 20 of an electro-magnet 17, by two. pawls 35, 36, which engage the periphery of the ratchet wheel at diametrically opposite points. The pawls are pivoted to the armature 20 at spaced points 37, 38. One complete reciprocation of the armature rotates the wheel 30 one tooth-space. Overrun, due to inertia of the wheel 30, is prevented by the engagement of the pawls 35, 36, with adjustable stops 42, 43, carried by a fixed bracket 40. The invention may be applied to counting devices.
