761,633. Clocks and watches. BULOVA WATCH CO., Inc. Oct. 19, 1954 [Oct. 23, 1953], No. 30116/54. Class 139. The ratchet wheel 1 of a timepiece mechanism is driven from a vibrating member 4 through a wire 5 connected at one end to the member 4 and at the other end to a coil spring 6 adjustably. connected to a frame member 8. A friction element 7 has a V- shaped groove which receives the wire 5 and a plastic layer 11 which tangentially engages the adjacent teeth of the ratchet 1. The arrangement is such that as the vibrating member 4 moves in the direction of the arrow A the element 7 steps on the ratchet in the direction of the arrow B. As the element 4, the wire 5 and the element 7 return in the direction of the arrow A' reverse rotation of the ratchet 1 is prevented by a plastic detent 12. Stops 9 and 10 determine the stroke of the element 7. In a modification the element 7 is fixed to the wire 5 which is connected to the vibrating member 4 through a coil spring. In another example, Fig. 4, a spring 16 acts on the element 7 with a force which increases as the element 7 moves to the left and decreases as the element 7 returns to the right.
