Device for transforming the oscillations of a mechanical vibrator into a rotational movement for controlling a clockwork mechanism The present invention relates to a positive device for transforming the oscillations of a mechanical vibrator into a rotational movement , for controlling a clockwork mechanism.
Devices have already been produced for the control of clockwork mechanisms, in which a mechanical vibrator is associated with an oscillating electric circuit, the control of the clockwork mechanism being able to be carried out either by deriving the electric oscillations to supply a motor. synchronous, or by transforming the mechanical vibrations of the vibrator into a rotary movement. A device of this kind has already been described in Swiss patent No. 312290.
Although the transformation of a reciprocating rectilinear movement into a rotational movement has already found numerous solutions in most cases which arise in the art, no satisfactory solution has heretofore been proposed for the control of 'a clockwork mechanism by transforming the mechanical oscillations of a vibrator into a rotary movement of a mobile clockwork mechanism. The generally high frequencies of the oscillations of the vibrator, the need to obtain a uniform rotary movement independent of the amplitude of the oscillations of the vibrator, pose problems for which the practical solution has not been found so far. .
The object of the present invention is to provide a solution to these problems; the device which is the subject of it is characterized by a wire connected to the mechanical vibrator and vibrating with the latter, by a wiper associated with said wire, one face of said wiper being pressed against the teeth of a ratchet wheel of the mechanism of clock laughs and causing the rotation in one direction of this ratchet wheel, by a stop pawl set in the teeth of said ratchet wheel to prevent rotation in the opposite direction posed, and by means suitable for containing the displacements of said friction member within determined limits independently of the amplitude of the oscillations of the vibrator,
the whole being arranged so that the natural frequencies of the various moving parts are greater than the frequency of the oscillations of the mechanical vibrator.
By way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention and a variant are shown in the accompanying drawing, where FIG. 1 schematically represents a device constituting this embodiment; fig. 2 is a cross section taken along the line 11-l1 of FIG. 1; fig. 3 shows a variant of the device of FIG. 1; and fig. 4 shows a constructive detail which can be applied to the devices of fig. 1 and 3.
The device illustrated in FIG. 1 comprises a ratchet wheel 1 pivoted in 2 and forming part of a clockwork mechanism. A mechanical vibrator 4, schematically drawn, oscillates in the direction defined by arrows A and A '. Above the ratchet wheel 1 is placed a wire 5, one end of which is fixed to the vibrator 4 and the other end of which is connected to a coil spring 6 fixed to a part 8 of the frame of the clockwork mechanism. The spring 6 is fixed to the frame 8 by one of its ends which is introduced into a bore made in the frame, and is held there by a conical pin 14. This arrangement makes it possible to adjust the tension of the spring 6 and, consequently, the tension of the wire 5, by moving the end of the res out in the frame 8.
It is clear that, .when the vibrator 4 oscillates, the wire 5 also oscillates.
On the wire 5, and in correspondence of the ratchet wheel 1, is disposed a wiper 7, so that its lower face is supported with a slight pressure on the teeth 3 of the ratchet wheel 1. The wiper 7 is in very light material, for example cork, and, as emerges from FIG. 2, it has over its entire length a longitudinal notch 7 ', of V-section and in which is engaged the wire 5. Because of the friction between the wire 5 and the sides of the notch 7', the friction plate 7 participates Normally to the vibrations of the wire 5. But if, for any reason, the friction pad 7 is prevented from moving, the wire 5 slips into the notch 7 '.
The movements of the slider 7 are limited, on one side and the other, by two stops, one of which 9 is fixed to the frame at a distance d from the end of the slider directed towards the vibrator 4, and the another stop 10 is fixed to the frame at a distance d from the other end of the wiper.
On the underside of the friction pad is applied a plastic coating 11, for example polyvinyl chloride, which aims to ensure the drive of the wheel while creating between the face of the friction and the teeth of the wheel , friction conditions preventing rapid wear of this face and said teeth.
On a part 13 of the frame of the clockwork mechanism is mounted a stopper 12, formed by a very thin elastic blade, the free end of which rests, with a slight pressure on a tooth 3 of the wheel 1. .
When the vibrator 4 moves in the direction of the arrow A, the wire 5, which is integral with it, also moves in the same direction, by tensioning the spring 6 and bringing with it the friction plate 7. The lower face of this last, resting on the teeth 3, forces the ratchet wheel 1 to rotate through a certain angle, in the direction of the arrow B. At the same time, the stop pawl 12 slides on a tooth 3 and comes to rest on the next tooth.
When the vibrator 4 moves in the direction of the arrow A ', the wire 5 is brought back to its initial position by the action of the spring 6, and drives with it the wiper 7. But, during this movement, the pawl d stop 12 abuts against a tooth 3 of the wheel 1 and therefore prevents it from turning. Thanks to the elasticity of the suspension of the slider 7, the underside of the latter slides on the teeth 3 of the wheel 1.
In order for the device described above to be able to operate satisfactorily, it is important that the wiper 7 rotates the wheel 1 always at the same angle, regardless of the amplitude of the oscillations of the vibrator 4 and of the wire 5, which amplitude , for accidental causes, may not be constant. For this, the two stops 9 and 10 maintain the alternative movements of the friction plate 7 within exactly determined limits.
On the other hand, the device being intended to control a clockwork mechanism, the wheel 1 should perform, each time, a rotation corresponding to the pitch p of the toothing. By examining fig. 1, it is easy to see that these conditions are satisfied when the total displacement (d + d ) of the friction 7 is greater than the pitch p but less than the double of this pitch, in other words, when 2 p> (d + d 'p.
It is also evident that the amplitude A ,, of the oscillations of the vibrator 4 must remain greater than or at least equal to the value of the pitch p, otherwise the wheel 1 would not turn by a sufficient angle and the mechanism of the clock would stop. It follows that for the proper functioning of the device, the other condition to be fulfilled is expressed by the relation Ao> p.
Finally, it should be noted that, for the device to operate regularly, it is necessary that the natural frequency of all the moving parts, that is to say of the wire 5, of the wiper 7, of the spring 6 and of wheel 1, i.e. greater than the frequency of oscillations of mechanical vibrator 4.
As was specified above, in order to absorb the impacts of the friction pad 7 against the stops 9 and 10, the wire 5 is engaged in the notch 7 'by simple friction, so that, when the friction strikes one of the stops 9 or 10, the wire can slide into the notch 7 '.
In the variant embodiment, shown in FIG. 3, the wire 5 is integral with the wiper 7. To prevent the wire 5 from breaking when the rubbing 7 hits the stop 9, the wire is connected to the vibrator 4 by means of a second coil spring 15.
As in the previous case, the natural frequency of this spring 15 must be greater than that of the oscillations of the vibrator 4. For everything else, the device of FIG. 3 is identical to that of FIG. 1.
In the two examples described, the wire 5 is arranged so that the friction pad 7 rests on the wheel 1 with sufficient pressure to give it a rotational movement. In particular cases, it may be necessary to exert pressure on the wiper 7 to ensure a sufficient frictional force between this wiper and the teeth of the ratchet wheel, during the active movement of the wiper. This result can be obtained by means of the construction detail shown in fig. 4. A curved leaf spring 16, fixed to the frame with a screw 17, rests on the upper face of the slider 7.
The convexity of the blade which is in the form of a spiral is directed towards the vibrator 4, so that when the slider 7 moves to rotate the wheel 1, the spring 16 tends to increase its pressure, while, in the displacement in the opposite direction, the pressure of the spring 16 tends to decrease.
