Abstract
386,746. Variable-speed ratchet gearing. RUETZ, H., 19, Schonaustrasse, Baden, Switzerland. Nov. 14, 1931, No. 31592. Convention date, Nov. 14, 1930. [Class 80 (ii).] A fuel-charging device for furnaces, including a ratchet wheel d rigid with a driven shaft a and an idle ratchet wheel b which is rotatable with respect to the shaft and which carries a cam c intermittently engaging a driving pawl m and thereby causing the fuel charging device to operate periodically, is provided with means, mounted independently of the idle ratchet wheel, for adjusting the effective stroke of the driving pawl m, said means comprising either a mask e, Fig. 2, loosely mounted on the driving shaft and provided with a toothed segment f meshing with a hand-rotated adjusting pinion g, or a pusher bar q, Fig. 6, one end of which is connected to the driving pawl n and the other end to an oscillating driving lever r by a device permitting the point of connection to be adjusted lengthwise of the lever. This adjusting device comprises a slot s in the lever having a number of notches t any one of which may be engaged by the bar q. The idle ratchet wheel is also driven by a pawl, the two pawls being carried by a single bell crank lever l, or in the modification shown in Fig. 6, the pawl engaging the idle ratchet wheel may be independently oscillated by a separate pusher bar and adjustable connecting device.
