Abstract
1416032 Time switches GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 5 April 1973 [7 April 1972] 16401/73 Heading H1N [Also in Division G3] An alarm clock mechanism comprises a switch 202, a timing motor (not shown), a sleep cam 215 operably connected to said switch for closing it for a predetermined time interval, manual means for moving said sleep cam to open or close said switch, ratchet teeth 298 on said sleep cam 215 for moving it from a switchclosed position to a switch-open position by said timing motor, a pawl lever 300 with a pawl 305 and means to move it into engagement with said teeth 298, drive mechanism connected to said timing motor for moving said pawl back and forth to step said sleep cam 215 as a function of time to thereby open said switch at the end of said time interval. As shown the alarm cam mechanism is as disclosed in Specification 1,416,031 and actuates switch 202 by specially shaped lever 212 upon axial movement of rod 242, the lever 212 being coupled to sleep cam 215 by lever 268 which is pivoted at 274 and has a cam-follower nose 276. An eccentric (106, Fig. 2, not shown) driven by a synchronous motor (111) oscillates lever 86 (Fig. 9) about pivot 88 once per minute. Lever 86 carries a pawl (84) to step a cam 52 for digital time indication, but the pawl 300, pivoted at 307 on lever 86, engages ratchet teeth 298 only when permitted by flats 324 and 326 twice per revolution of cam 52, i.e. every five minutes. Thus sleep cam 215 is stepped one increment every five minutes. After a sleep period, predetermined by setting the initial angular position of cam 215 by means of shaft 304, notch 294 is brought under nose 276, and lever 268, urged by a spring (278, Fig. 5, not shown), lifts lever 212 which is cammed by shaft 242 to move transversely and opens contacts 206, 208. Besides setting a short time interval the sleep cam 215 may be set manually to ON and OFF positions in which the lever 268 is respectively cammed into high or low notches 301 and 294, to close or open the contacts 206, 208. In these positions of cam 215 a smooth portion 306 without ratchet teeth is adjacent pawl 305 and no stepping can occur.
