Abstract

1,076,291. Cam-operated switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. May 6, 1965 [May 8, 1964], No. 19124/65. Heading H2B. In an interval timer, a unidirectional driver pinion 10 is selectively engageable either with the internal gear sector 15 or the external gear sector 12 of a bidirectional driven member 11 so as to rotate member 11 counterclockwise or clockwise, respectively, by counterclockwise rotation of pinion 10 e.g. by a motor (20) and gear train (21) (Fig. 4, not shown). Member 11 rotates with a switch-actuating cam 8 loose on a shaft 9, the shaft 9 being manually rotatable to actuate the switch 1 manually or to engage pinion 10 with member 11 for automatic switch operation. Switch actuation is accelerated by rapid rotation of cam 8 relative to driven member 11 by means of a loose tongue and slot engagement 22. A detent spring 16 selectively engages a projection (17) from member 11 in a notch (18) or (19) (Figs. 1, 5, not shown) to maintain shaft 9 in either manual position to maintain switch 1 off or on manually. Suitable clutch means (not shown) allow the manual engagement of the gear sectors 15, 12, with the pinion 10.
