Abstract
1416031 Time switches GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 5 April 1973 [7 April 1972] 16400/73 Heading H1N [Also in Division G3] In an alarm clock mechanism having two coaxial cam members 219 and 220 which are mutually axially movable by spring force at a predetermined relative angular position to actuate a control mechanism (such as a vibrator or a switch), one of said cam members 219 supports a cam follower 222 which is rotatable therewith for co-operation with axially raised and lower cam surfaces of the other cam member 220 to permit their relative axial movement, and said cam follower 222 is mounted for movement with respect to the cam member 219 on which it is supported for permitting said follower 222 to remain on the lower cam surface so that the clock mechanism is not required to restore said follower 222 to said raised surface against the spring force. As shown, cam member 220 is carried by a gear 218 which is driven at one revolution in twelve hours by timer pinion 224 and is mounted on a shaft 242, the front end of which is slidable in a bore (Fig. 6, not shown) in shaft 230. A switch blade 202 acts on shaft 242 to urge cam 220 into abutment with follower 222. Cam member 219 together with indicator disc 234 and knob 232 are secured on shaft 230 and allow the angular position of follower 222, and hence the operating time, to be set manually. The follower 222 comprises a sheet metal angle piece (308, 310, Figs. 9 and 10, not shown) passing through a slot in member 219 and held in the position shown by a leaf spring 252 but able to pivot on member 219. After dropping into the recess, or lower cam surface, of cam 220, and thus allowing contacts 206, 208 to close, follower 222 is pivoted slightly outwardly by the continuing rotation of cam 220 to remain on its periphery. Thus no appreciable addition is made to the torque requirements of the clock motor, the follower 222 being returned to the raised surface of cam 220 by manual rotation of a cam 216. This acts on one arm 264 of a lever pivoted at 256, 258, the other arm 260 then moving cam 220 and shaft 242 rearwardly. Cam 216 may be left in this position when it is desired to prevent timed closure of the contacts.
