Abstract

1376927 Time switches CROUZET 29 Nov 1971 [9 Dec 1970] 55289/71 Heading H1N A programmer wherein a block of cams (not shown), is stepped by a pawl 5 acting on a drive wheel 6 is provided with a timing device adapted to suppress stepping for a preset time period by disengaging the pawl from the drive wheel and said device comprises at least two timing units either one of which can be selected to determine one of at least two different adjustable time periods of suppression. Each timing unit comprises a timing wheel 8<SP>1</SP> returned by a spring 9<SP>1</SP> into engagement with an adjustable abutment 13<SP>1</SP>a, and driven by a wheel 12<SP>1</SP> with at least one tooth 12<SP>1</SP>a and connected by a gear 16<SP>1</SP> to a reduction drive (not shown, but included in the programmer), and also a lever 7<SP>1</SP> one end 7<SP>1</SP>c of which follows a selction cam 10<SP>1</SP> stepped with the block of cams (not shown), such that the other end selectively acts on a second lever 11<SP>1</SP> to allow it to function as a return prevention member for the time wheel 8<SP>1</SP>. The first levers 7<SP>1</SP> and 7 can also act separately on a third lever 4 for disengaging the pawl 5 from the wheel 6 for a period determined by the rotation of the respective time wheel 8<SP>1</SP> or 8. As shown each timing wheel such as 8<SP>1</SP> is held by a spring 9<SP>1</SP> such that a lug 8<SP>1</SP>d abuts an adjustable back stop 13<SP>1</SP>a manually settable by a knob 151. A single-toothed wheel 12<SP>1</SP>a is driven by gears 12<SP>1</SP>, 16<SP>1</SP> the gear 16<SP>1</SP> being axially mated with gear 16 which is driven by reduction gearing (not shown). The ratios of gears 12<SP>1</SP>, 16<SP>1</SP> and 12, 16 are different such that the single teeth 12<SP>1</SP>a and 12a rotate at different speeds. Normally time wheel 81 merely oscillates against the stop 13<SP>1</SP>a, but when nose 7<SP>1</SP>c of lever 7<SP>1</SP> drops to level R3 on a selection cam 10<SP>1</SP> (which is stepped together with selection cam 10 and the block of cams not shown), the lever 11<SP>1</SP> is allowed to act as a pawl on wheel 8<SP>1</SP> which is then stepped steadily by the tooth 12<SP>1</SP>a. Simultaneously nose 7<SP>1</SP>a acts on the bar 18<SP>1</SP> to lift arm 4 and stop the drive from pawl 5 to wheel 6. After a time determined by the speed of tooth 12<SP>1</SP>a and the angular setting of the origin by back stop 13<SP>1</SP>a the nose 7<SP>1</SP>d of lever 71 rides on to a high portion of wheel 8<SP>1</SP> equivalent to that shown at 8g on wheel 8. This allows bar 18<SP>1</SP> to drop somewhat and stepping by pawl 5 recommences. A high tooth similar to 8e is still engaged by nose 11b and prevents the return of wheel 81 which oscillates idly until cam 10<SP>1</SP> lifts lever 7<SP>1</SP> to level R 1 , further lifting lever 11<SP>1</SP> and allowing spring 9<SP>1</SP> to restore wheel 8<SP>1</SP> to its rest position.
