853,377. Engine turning gear. INNOCENTI SOC. GEN. PER L'INDUSTRIA METALLURGIA E. MECCANICA. March 3, 1959, No. 7280/59. Class 7(5). A device for pedal starting of motor cycle engines comprises teeth 6 arranged in a circular row on one of the toothed wheels 7 of the change speed gearing, an arm radially extending from the shaft 2 of the starting pedal and one or two teeth 5 carried by the arm and adapted to cooperate with the first mentioned teeth in order to couple the pedal shaft with the toothed gear when the pedal is depressed. Thus when the pedal is depressed a spring 8 forces a piston 4 with the teeth 5 thereon into engagement with the teeth 6. When the pedal is released a projection 9 co-operates with a cam 10 to withdraw the piston against the action of the spring 8.
