Abstract

1,039,463. Hammers. BIRMINGHAM BELTING CO. Ltd. July 13, 1964 [April 20, 1963], No. 15681/63. Heading B4C. A hand-held hammer comprises a head 11 having a cavity 10 divided by partitions 12 into separate passages extending over part or the whole length of the cavity in the direction of movement of the head during operation, a mass of particles 13 being distributed amongst the passages. The passages may be formed, as shown in Fig. 1, by means of the partitions 12 across a circular cavity 10 or, as shown in Fig. 2, the passages may be formed by a number of holes 15. The head, which may be of extruded plastics material, may be provided with detachable striking faces made of e.g. plastics or hard wood, the faces being screwed or clipped to the head. The particles may be metal balls and, in the construction shown in Fig. 2, a single ball may be fitted into each passage.
