Abstract

737,968. Projectiles. BIELSTIN, E., and BAUER, E., [trading as BAUER, C. [Firm of]]. Sept. 9, 1953 [Sept. 11, 1952], No. 25021/53. Class 9(1). A bolt or nail 2 to be fired into metal or masonry is provided with a sleeve 3 of readily deformable material, such as rubber, wood, leather board, or soft metal, serving to guide and position the bolt in the barrel of a firing device. The sleeve 3 has longitudinal guide ribs 5 equally spaced around the periphery, and between the ribs the sleeve may be grooved to provide lines 7 of fracture along which the sleeve disrupts as the bolts penetrate into a structure. Several different cross-sections of sleeve are described in which the number and configuration of the ribs is varied. Two retaining sleeves may be fitted on each bolt and the sleeve near the head of the bolt may have an annular guide flange 6, Fig. 8, which acts as a gas check.
