Abstract

1399776 Cartridge-actuated fastener driving tools HILTI AG 6 March 1973 [2 May 1972] 10680/73 Heading B4C The exhaust gases in a cattridge-actuated fastener driving tool pass through one or more connecting channels 14 to an annular space 17 and then through one or more gas outlet channels 18 back to the barrel bore. As shown, the gases enter three connecting channels 14 when the head 9 of the propelled piston has driven in the fastener 4 and reached an enlarged region 13 of the barrel. The gases leave the annular space through the gas outlet channels which are in the form of three slots 18 staggered in relation to the channels 14 but aligned with "flow-off" notches 19. The muzzle 6 is secured by a screwthread 8. When a piston is not employed the fastener performs the same function as the piston in allowing the gases to enter the connecting channels 14. The invention aids sound damping and directs the gases away from the operator. The sound damping effect may also be increased by providing the annular space 17 with dividing ribs or inserts of acoustic insulating mineral wool.
