Abstract

1,199,739. Hammers; hammer handle fixings. THOR HAMMER CO. Ltd. 3 Jan., 1969 [19 Oct., 1967], No. 47624/67. Headings B4C and B4K. A hammer head having two integral or replaceable striking faces 11 is provided with a barrel-shaped opening 12 and a shock-absorbing sleeve 15 formed of a resilient material, e.g. polyurethane or rubber, or of soft metal, e.g. lead. The bore of the sleeve is of a waisted configuration. The sleeve may be keyed to the head by one or two pegs engaging in corresponding recesses. A shaft 17 has a tapered lead-in portion 21 which may be removed after assembly of the head on the shaft. Wedges may be driven into the upper surface of the shaft after removal of the portion 21.
