1311863 Hammers THOR HAMMER CO Ltd 1 Oct 1970 [20 Sept 1969] 46444/69 Heading B4C A hammer includes a hammer head of relatively hard metal e.g. steel or maleable iron having a threaded portion, a striking face of a material which is relatively softer than the metal of the head, and an intermediate element comprising a cup-like holder in which the striking face is secured, the intermediate element including a thread formation of plastics material adapted to co-act with the threaded portion of the head. As illustrated in Fig. 1 each striking face 12 is secured in the holder 13 by peening the edge 14, and an externally threaded plastics member 16 is received in a screw threaded bore 15 in the head. Rotation of the member 16 relative to the holder 13 is prevented by radially extending projections 18 engaging in complementary recesses in the holder 13. To prevent undue stress on the member 16 a ring (19) (Fig. 4, not shown) may be located in annular grooves (20, 21) in the head and holder 13 respectively. Alternatively an annular projection on one of the head and holder 13 may engage with an annular groove in the other. The member 16 may be cemented or adhesively secured in the holder 13, and a washer, e.g. of plastics may be positioned between the end face of the head and the base of the holder.
