Abstract

1,036,949. Coaxial connectors. AMNI SPECTRA Inc. Nov. 18, 1964 [Feb. 18, 1964], No. 47016/64. Heading H2E. Relative axial movement between an outer conductor 12 (Fig. 1) and an inner conductor 16 in a coaxial connector for transmitting RF waves is prevented by a member 38, which is chosen so that the electrical impedance of the connector is unaltered by the insertion of this member. In the embodiment described a diametrically extending bore 32 is made through a hollow metallic tubular outer conductor 12, a dielectric core 14, which may be of tetrafluoroethylene fluorocarbon resin, and extends round the central conductor 16. Part of the central conductor 16 may be cut away as shown at 36, and ridges may be provided in this region to prevent relative rotation of the central conductor 16. A molten epoxy resin is then poured into the bore and allowed to harden. The type of resin and the extent of the cut away portion 40 are chosen so that the electrical impedance of the connector is unchanged. The retaining device 38 may also be applied to coaxial connectors of the type in which a screw thread is provided on the outside of the outer conductor 12 and the inner conductor 16 has the ends 22 adapted to fit over the central conductor of the cable which is to be joined to the connector (Fig. 4, not shown).
