[Class 40 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVI] In a rotatable coupling for ultra - high frequency apparatus, e.g. concentric cables, the inner and outer conductors 6, 8, respectively of the rotatable part overlap axially the inner and outer conductors 4, 7, respectively, of the fixed part by one or an integral odd number of quarter wavelengths at the operating frequency, the conductors thereby forming air-spaced concentric cylindrical conducting surfaces, whereby capacitative coupling is effected. Energy is prevented from passing down the outside of the coupling and radiation losses are reduced when the coupling is enclosed in a., mechanical housing, by a skirt-like member 9 secured to the fixed portion and constituting two quarterwave length sections E, F of differing impedances.
