Abstract
644,161. Impedance transformers. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE, DIRECTOR OF THE OFFICE OF TECHNICAL SERVICES OF. Feb. 27, 1948, No. 5979. Convention date, Dec. 10, 1945. [Class 40 (viii)] Apparatus for transforming an unbalanced transmission line into a balanced one comprises a length 16 of coaxial line and a hollow pipe-line 13 parallel thereto and substantially equal in length, a shorting member 14 connecting one end of the hollow line to the outer member of the coaxial and a further member 15 connecting the inner to the other end of the hollow line, while the whole is enclosed in a shield 10. In the arrangement shown, a supply line 12 is connected to the transformer and a dipole aerial 17 and 18 is connected to the end of the line 13 and the outer of line 16. The lengths of the transforming device and those of dipole sections 17 and 18 differ slightly and in opposite senses from a quarter of a wavelength in the operating band of the apparatus.
