Abstract

745,424. Impedance transformers. SVENSKA AKTIEBOLAGET GASACCUMULATOR. Nov. 8, 1951 [Nov. 21, 1950], No. 26182/51. Class 40 (8). [Also in Group XL (c)] In a radiogoniometer for use in a radio direction-finder, the stator elements comprise four short-circuited transmission lines and the rotor element comprises a rotatable shortcircuited transmission line coupled inductively to the stator elements. The Figure shows an axial section wherein two of the stator elements are provided by conductors 12 and 14 connected at their ends to the conductive housing 29 which provides the return leads of the transmission lines. The rotor element comprises hollow conductors 16 and 17 which are connected together by a conducting plate 31, the output from the rotor being taken from the other end of the conductors and led through one of them as indicated by the broken lines in the Figure. The lines are capacity loaded by elements 30 which as applied to the stator elements are connected to the housing 29 and surround the conductors 12, 14 and as applied to the rotor elements comprise a series of metal plates capacitively coupling together the conductors 16 and 17. The lines are arranged to be an effective quarter-wavelength long at a mean frequency within the band to be received. It is stated that a goniometer as so far described does not give an accurate sinusoidal law for the variation of output with angular setting; an improved law may be obtained by replacing each conductor, i.e. 12, 14, 16, 17, by a pair of slightly circumferentially displaced conductors, Fig. 4 (not shown).
