Abstract

En un procedimiento para producir ácido acético haciendo reaccionar metanol con una alimentación de monóxido de carbono en un medio de reacción líquido, conteniendo un catalizador que comprende una sal de rodio y una sal de iridio, y que comprende agua, ácido acético, yoduro de metilo, y acetato de metilo y que posteriormente se recupera el ácido acético del producto de reacción resultante, la mejora que comprende: mantener en dicho medio de reacción durante el trascurso de dicha reacción una cantidad finita menor que un 14 % en peso de agua junto con (a) una cantidad efectiva de ión yoduro en el intervalo de un 2 a un 20 % en peso como estabilizador/co-promotor catalítico, seleccionado a partir del grupo que consta de sales de metal alcalino y de metal alcalinotérreo, y/o sales de yoduro de amonio o de fosfonio cuaternario, (b) de un 5 % en peso a un 30 % en peso de yoduro de metilo, y (c) de un 0, 5 % en peso a un 30 % en peso de acetato de metilo.
