Definitions
- the invention relates to the use of a copper alloy for the manufacture of horse bits or parts thereof.
- Copper alloys for the production of horse bits and in particular bit rods or other bit parts of horse bits are used in many different ways.
- EP 0 638 655 B1 is known an alloy with 81 to 88 wt .-% copper, less than 4 wt .-% silicon and balance zinc including impurities.
- WO 2009/034387 a copper alloy with 65 to 99.95% by weight of copper is known, 25 to 36% by weight of zinc, 0.2 to 2.7% by weight of cobalt and other constituents, the proportion by weight of which in each case does not exceed 2% is to be added.
- the other possible components are tin, at least one element from group 15 of the periodic table, zirconium, AL2O3, chromium and beryllium.
- Nickel silver alloys have been used for the manufacture of horse bits for a long time, they typically contain 50-60% by weight of copper, about 10 to 20% by weight of nickel, the rest of zinc and unavoidable additions.
- a successful copper alloy for the manufacture of horse bits consists of approximately 85% by weight copper, 3-4% by weight silicon, the rest zinc and unavoidable additions. Horses accept this alloy very well. It demonstrably stimulates the horses to chew. The top line of the horses relaxes and the performance is significantly increased compared to other copper alloys. This successful copper alloy is used extensively and successfully. Their advantage lies on the one hand in the sufficient hardness of the alloy and on the other hand in the high copper content.
- the new alloy should be accepted by horses at least as well as the successful alloy of copper, silicon and zinc.
- the chewing activity should be stimulated at least to the same extent as with the successful alloy, the willingness of the horse to perform should be promoted equally well.
- the new alloy should have the same strength values as before, in particular strength values as are generally required for bits.
- the new alloy should preferably have a lower dissolution behavior of copper and other alloy metals in the horse's saliva. Overall, the new alloy should show less surface corrosion. It should show a significantly better look even when stored in air and after extended use.

Description
FR967018 (A - Der Gewichtsanteil an Mangan liegt vorzugsweise bei 12 ± 1 %. Der Gewichtsanteil an Zink liegt vorzugsweise bei 13 ± 1 %.
