- the axis of rotation of the first cross-cutting cylinder 23 of the two folders 17; 18 and the axis of rotation of at least one cylinder group delimiting a pressure gap are arranged running parallel.
- An advantage of the presence of the two folders 17, 18 is that redundancy is created so that if one of these devices fails, the printing press can continue to be operated using the other.
- a printing press with a single folder only runs with the best possible economy if all of its printing units print webs of maximum width. In the example considered here with four double-sided printing units 01 to 04 and six-page webs 07, this means that with each rotation of the printing cylinder by one plate width, 48 pages are printed. If one assumes that the printing cylinders each carry four plates in the circumferential direction, which are different in pairs, the printing cylinders become with each complete revolution printed twice 96 pages. This is the size of the benefit for which the press can be used optimally if only one folder is available. Such benefit sizes are not always achieved; in general, there will be at least one benefit in printing a phone book that is smaller.
- the page numbers given in the table refer to the case that paper webs are printed with the full width of six pages. Of course, webs with four or two sides width can also be used; then the specified page numbers decrease accordingly.
