Definitions
- the invention relates to a neck for a stringed instrument, in particular a guitar or bass guitar, comprising a neck body optionally formed from several elements as well a fingerboard with a playing surface facing the strings, being between the Neck body and the fingerboard a groove-like extension is provided in the adjusting means are inserted in order to impart a desired curvature to the neck.
- a first proposal for such adjustment means is that of the applicant EP 273 372 B1.
- the adjustment means described there have, however shown to be in need of improvement in several respects.
- Those proposed in the prior art Adjustment means comprise two rods running parallel to one another, which on one End are connected together and at their opposite ends can be offset against each other, so that the arrangement of these double rods themselves can create a curve in the neck of a guitar or bass guitar.
- Those proposed in the prior art Adjustment means comprise two rods running parallel to one another, which on one End are connected together and at their opposite ends can be offset against each other, so that the arrangement of these double rods themselves can create a curve in the neck of a guitar or bass guitar.
- must comparatively large recesses are provided in the neck, which this weakens.
- the system of double bars creates additional loads applied to the neck.
- a single truss rod is now in the groove-like Recess inserted and anchored in an anchoring point facing the body. At its saddle-side end facing away from the body, the rod is initially free stored. The rod is held in a curved position by means of a wedge of curvature. A nut can be screwed onto its free end, which then attaches itself neck and can be tightened to pull the rod "straight". This has the purpose of pulling the neck back against the pulling force exerted by the strings bend.
- the neck should have a particularly advantageous, Desired curvature are embossed, which also after production and also after Prolonged use with different tension strings can still be corrected.
- the object of the present invention is to provide a neck for a stringed instrument, such as creating a guitar or bass guitar in particular, which is one of the ones you want Curvature close to the curvature after the guitar is manufactured or can be imprinted much easier and more precisely after prolonged use.
- the invention is applicable to all types of instruments which have strings and at least one neck, i.e. in addition to guitars or bass guitars, for example also on cellos, violins, double basses, concert and western guitars, banjos, etc.
- a key idea of the present invention is that not only tensile forces but also compressive forces can be exerted on the neck via the rod inserted in the neck of the stringed instrument, so that not only can the tension of the strings weaken or compensate, but also reinforce it.
- the proposed adjustment means are easy to implement.
- the neck in particular a guitar or bass guitar is provided by the measures of the invention hardly weakened, possibly even strengthened.
- the effectiveness of the proposed adjustment means can be limited by default the radius of curvature of the groove-like recess and the wedge of curvature be predefined.
- An excessively flat radius of curvature of the groove-like recess or the wedge of curvature would not give the adjustment means too great an effect.
- A is particularly strong curvature due to the limited material thickness of the neck body as well as the limited elasticity of wood, which is mostly, but not exclusively, as Material is used, not feasible anyway.
- the due to the geometry of the neck body Realizable radius of curvature for the groove-like recess or the wedge of curvature is completely sufficient to achieve the desired effect.
- the curvature means can be configured in almost any way can be, for example, several spacers between the fingerboard and rod be provided.
- the key is that the rod is held in a curved position becomes.
- the curvature means are through formed a wedge of curvature, which is preferably in one piece between the fingerboard and rod is inserted.
- the wedge is as Shaped wood chip.
- one of the basic ideas of the present invention is to and pressure behavior of a variable, curved inserted in its effective length To use tension and compression rod.
- this is done with realized a rod and a groove-like recess that curved away from the game surface are arranged progressively.
- a change in curvature would be purely in principle in both directions also by a curved one towards the game surface Bar possible, but this would be more difficult to achieve in terms of manufacturing technology.
- the rod has a thread on its saddle-side free end facing away from the body of the guitar or bass guitar, onto which an adjusting nut held in the associated saddle-side anchoring point is screwed.
- the saddle side denotes a positioning in the vicinity of the free end of the neck, which depending on the design is still completed by a head or a head plate or is designed without such a head plate (headless).
- the adjusting nut is held firmly in the anchoring point in the direction of pull and push of the rod. This allows the rod to exert both compressive and tensile forces on the rod.
- the rod is fixed against tensile and compressive forces in the body-side anchoring point.
- it could also be done at the body-side anchoring point Means to change the effective length of the rod with the same Objective to change the curvature of the neck in both directions his.
- the body-side anchorage point can also lie outside the neck, in the area of the body, whereby the separability neck and body would be difficult.
- the adjusting nut is attached to its External surface circumferential groove against tensile and compressive forces of the rod fixed in the assigned saddle-side anchorage held. To do this, reach into the circumferential groove the adjusting nut on the saddle-side anchoring means.
- the adjusting nut could also fixed in another way against tensile and compressive forces of the rod in the anchoring point being held.
- the rod here has a fixedly arranged anchoring element which is fixed in the associated anchoring point on the body side.
- the body-side anchoring point can also be provided in the body itself, which would make it difficult to separate the neck and body.
- the curvature of the neck is influenced by the fact that reinforcements are provided in the body-side region of the neck, in order to curve the neck predominantly only in the saddle-side region. This measure achieves a curvature which is adapted to the vibration behavior of the strings.
- the fact that the fretboard of the neck essentially traces the amplitude of the string vibration ensures that the vibrating string does not open on the one hand, but on the other hand the aim is to keep the distance from the fretboard as uniform as possible.
- the reinforcements are made of plate-shaped steel inserts educated.
- the steel inserts can, for example, in the neck body in this Insert the provided recesses and then through the on the neck body attached fingerboard attached.
- the steel inserts are of this type inserted in the neck that their preferred plane in the direction of the neck, but essentially extends perpendicular to the playing surface of the fretboard. In this orientation is a stiffener of the neck particularly effective against the direction of the strings.
- the neck curvature profile can be modified.
- Fig. 1 is an embodiment of a neck for a guitar or bass guitar in one Shown longitudinal sectional view.
- the neck includes in the present embodiment initially a continuous neck body 11, on the end of which there is a head plate 27 adds the mechanics for tuning the strings.
- On the neck side 11 has a groove-like recess 13, which is milled, for example.
- the groove-like recess 13 runs essentially along the entire length of the neck, its depth relative to that facing the strings Surface of the neck body 11 at the body end at a certain level begins and steadily increases to the central area, where the maximum depth is reached becomes. From there, the depth of the groove-like recess 13 towards the head again continuously, with the groove-like recess 13 at both ends by anchoring points 17, 18 is limited for a rod to be explained.
- the rod 14 In the groove-like recess 13 - an already mentioned - rod 14 can be used, the has an anchor element 22 at its body end.
- the anchor element 22 is through a section transverse to the rod 14 is formed, and is in a corresponding shaped, transverse recess which defines the body-side anchoring point 18, inserted.
- the rod 14 has an external thread 20 on which an adjusting nut 21 is screwed.
- the adjusting nut 21 is in itself to the groove-like recess 13 adjoining the adjusting nut 21 adapted recess 30 inserted.
- the adjusting nut 21 encompasses the saddle-side end of the rod 14 like a sleeve and has an internal hexagon 29 or other suitable actuating means on the front to remove them with a suitable tool from the front end of the rod 14 to be able to operate here.
- an adjustment channel 26 is in the top plate 27 intended.
- a circumferential groove 25 is provided on the outer circumferential surface of the adjusting nut 21, engage in the saddle-side anchoring means, which are designed here as a clamp 28.
- the clamp 28 is fixed in the pulling and pushing direction of the rod 14 in the saddle side Anchoring point 17 held by which in the embodiment shown an extension 33 of the recess 30 is formed.
- a rod 14 is inserted into the groove-like recess 13 of the neck body 11 Curvature wedge 16 placed, the rod 14 as a means of curvature in a curved Hold position.
- the wedge 16 is formed here from a wood chip, the Strength starting from a certain minimum strength towards the middle up to a maximum increases and then decreases again.
- the curvature contour of the wedge 16 essentially corresponds to the depth profile in the present embodiment the groove-like recess 13 so that when a fingerboard 12 is placed on the strings facing surface of the neck body 11 of the wedge 16 between the rod 14 and fingerboard 12 remaining space of the groove-like recess 13 essentially fills.
- the rod 14 is pressed onto the bottom of the groove-like recess 13 and remains loose.
- plate-shaped steel inserts 23, 24 are two reinforcements in the area of the body.
- the plate-shaped Steel inlays 23, 24 are essentially perpendicular to the fingerboard with their preferred plane 12 and run parallel to the neck.
- About the length, strength, positioning, type of Training and number of steel inserts can be the curvature behavior of the neck preset when changing the effective length of the rod 14.
- Fig. 2 the neck body 11 and the head plate 27 attached to it are in plan view shown.
- the groove-like recess which runs approximately in the center can be clearly seen 13, the end side through the body-side anchoring point 18 and the saddle side Anchoring point 17 is limited.
- the adjusting nut 21 provided recess 30 incorporated laterally an extension 33 for fixing the bracket 28.
- Recesses are essentially parallel to the groove-shaped recess 31, 32 are provided for the steel inserts 23, 24, in which the steel inserts 23, 24 are only inserted become.
- a fixation takes place on the one hand by a tight fit of the recesses 31, 32 and on the other hand in that the recesses 31, 32 then through the fingerboard 12 are closed.
- FIG. 3 is an exploded perspective view of the embodiment of the neck for Guitars or bass guitars shown in Fig. 1.
- the fingerboard 12 has a playing surface 15 which later faces the strings (not shown).
- the mode of operation of the adjusting means according to the invention is illustrated in the figure 1 to 3 illustrated embodiment understandable.
- the adjusting means according to the invention in particular the rod 14 acting in the pulling and pushing directions in interaction With the wedge 16, the curvature behavior of the neck body can be 11 adjust. If the neck is curved too much in the direction of pulling the strings, it will shorten the effective length of the rod 14 between the body-side anchorage point 18 and the saddle-side anchorage point 17 that its curvature decreases and he acts essentially perpendicular to the fingerboard 12 pressure forces on the wedge of curvature 16 transmits.
- Curvature of the fingerboard 12 can also be reinforced. This is done using the adjustment means 21 the effective length of the rod 14 between the body-side anchoring point 18 and the saddle-side anchoring point 17 extended. This is done by pressing the Adjusting nut 21 such that the effective length of the rod 14 increases. The adjusting nut 21 is fixed in the pulling or pushing direction of the rod 14 in the saddle side Anchoring point fixed by a bracket 28, which extends the recess 30 is held.
- the effective length of the rod 14 When the effective length of the rod 14 is increased, it forms an even stronger one Curvature. He then puts pressure on his middle area, especially on the middle area Area of the groove-like recess 13 and therefore urges the neck body 11, his To follow the course of curvature, so that the curvature behavior of the rod 14 acts on the neck body 11. The neck body 11 is thereby from the plane of the strings curved away, which produces the desired effect.

Abstract
