Definitions
- the invention relates to a neck for a stringed instrument, in particular a guitar or bass guitar comprising a neck body possibly formed of a plurality of elements and a fingerboard with a playing surface facing the strings, wherein a groove-like recess is provided between the neck body and the fingerboard is, are inserted in the adjusting means to impart the neck a desired curvature, according to the preamble of claim 1.
- a first proposal for such adjusting means is that attributed to the applicant EP 273 372 B1.
- the adjusting means described there have shown to be in several ways in need of improvement.
- the according to the state of Technology proposed adjustment include two parallel to each other Rods that are connected at one end and at their opposite Ends can be offset against each other, so the arrangement of these Double rods themselves create a curvature of the neck of a guitar or bass guitar can.
- comparatively large recesses must be provided in the neck become what weakens this.
- additional loads applied to the neck are possible to be provided.
- the neck is a particularly advantageous desired curvature can be impressed, even after manufacture and even after prolonged use with differently attractive strings still corrected can be.
- adjusting means which with a single rod create both compressive and tensile forces to alter a curvature of the neck can.
- the rod in the neck at its end facing away from the body in held an anchoring point.
- a Gear formed which is a gear and a toothed with the worm gear includes.
- the gear has a central internal thread, allowing it on a corresponding external thread on the body side end of the truss rod stored is.
- the object of the present invention is to provide a neck for a stringed instrument, in particular to create a guitar or bass guitar, which is one of the desired curvature of the curvature after production of the guitar or after prolonged use, it can be impressed much more easily and accurately.
- the invention is applicable to all types of instruments that have strings and at least one neck, so in addition to guitars or bass guitars, for example, on cellos, violins, double basses, concert and Western guitars, banjos, etc ...
- a key idea of the present invention is to be able to exert on the rod inserted in the neck of the stringed instrument not only tensile forces, but also compressive forces on the neck in an even simpler way, so not only attenuated or compensated by the tensile force of the strings, but also reinforced can be.
- the adjustment means now provided can be a correction in both directions make, i. the effect of the tension of the strings can be strengthened, weakened or compensated. It's also about the pure compensation of the string exceeding curvature in the opposite direction conceivable.
- the staff on its saddle-side, the body of the guitar or bass guitar facing away, free At the end of a thread, on the one in the associated, saddle-sided anchoring point held adjusting nut is screwed.
- Saddle side referred to in the present Context positioning near the free end of the neck, depending on the design is completed by a head or a top plate or without one such head plate is formed (headless).
- the adjusting nut in the tension and compression direction of the rod firmly in the anchoring point held. This allows the rod both compressive and tensile forces on the rod exercise.
- any manufacturing tolerances, Effects of different strings as well as a change over the years compensate for the curvature of the neck.
- the proposed adjustment means are easy to implement.
- the neck in particular a guitar or bass guitar is provided by the provision of the invention Measures hardly weakened, possibly even reinforced.
- the effectiveness of the proposed adjustment means can be limited in scope Presetting the radius of curvature of the groove-like recess and the curving wedge be predefined. Too flat a radius of curvature of the groove-like recess or the curving wedge would give the adjustment means not too great effect. A particularly strong curvature is due to the limited material thickness the neck body as well as the limited elasticity of wood, the most but not exclusively is used as a material, anyway not feasible. The due to the Geometry of the neck body realizable radius of curvature for the groove-like recess However, the curling wedge is completely sufficient to the desired effect to achieve.
- the curvature means can be designed almost arbitrarily be, for example, several spacer webs between fingerboard and Rod be provided.
- the decisive factor is that the rod is in a curved position is held.
- the curvature means formed by a curving wedge, preferably integrally between Fingerboard and stick is inserted.
- the Curved wedge shaped as wood chip.
- one of the basic ideas of the present invention is that Tensile and compressive behavior of a variable in its effective length, curved exploited inserted pull and push rod.
- this is realized with a rod and a groove-like recess, which of the Game surface curved away are arranged running.
- Purely in principle would be theoretical a change of curvature in both directions also through one to the game surface bent rod possible, but this manufacturing technology could be made more difficult.
- body-side anchoring point of the rod against tensile and compressive force is fixed stored.
- body side Anchoring point Means for changing the effective length of the rod with the same objective to change the curvature of the neck in both directions be provided.
- the body side Anchoring point can also be outside the neck, in the area of the body, where the separability of the neck and body would be made more difficult.
- the Justiermutter is concretely by a circumferential groove on its outer surface against Tensile and compressive forces of the rod fixed in the associated saddle-side anchoring point held.
- the saddle-side engage in the circumferential groove of the adjusting nut Anchoring means.
- the adjusting nut could indeed in other ways held against tensile and compressive forces of the rod fixed in the anchoring point.
- a particularly comfortable operation of the adjusting nut is achieved by an adjustment channel guaranteed, which is formed in a subsequent to the neck headstock.
- This solution is already known in adjustment means, which work only on train. Also, the now provided adjustment, which is a much more variable setting allow the curvature behavior, can be operated in this convenient way.
- the rod has a fixed anchoring element fixed in the associated body-side anchoring point.
- the body-side anchoring point can also be provided in the body itself, which, however, would make it more difficult to separate the neck and the body.
- the curvature of the neck is affected by providing reinforcements in the body-side region of the neck to curl the neck primarily only in the saddle-side region.
- the reinforcements are plate-shaped steel inserts educated.
- the steel inserts can be, for example, in the neck body in this inserted recesses and then by the on the neck body attached fingerboard attached.
- the steel inserts are so placed in the neck that their preferred plane in the neck direction, but essentially extends perpendicular to the game surface of the fingerboard. In this orientation is a stiffener of the neck against the pulling direction of the strings particularly effective.
- the curvature profile of the neck can be modified.
- Fig. 1 is an embodiment of a neck for a guitar or bass guitar in one Longitudinal view shown.
- the neck includes in the present embodiment 10 first a continuous neck body 11, at the end a head plate 27th attaches in which the tuners are recorded to tune the strings.
- the neck body 11 On the the strings facing side, the neck body 11 has a groove-like recess 13, which is milled, for example.
- the groove-like recess 13 extends substantially over the entire length of the neck, its depth being relative to that facing the strings 15 surface of the neck body 11 at the body end at a certain level starts and steadily increases to the middle range, where the maximum depth is reached becomes. From there, the depth of the groove-like recess 13 to the head side again continuously, wherein the groove-like recess 13 at both ends by anchoring points 17, 18 is limited to a yet to be explained rod. 20
- the his anchorage end has an anchor element 22.
- the anchor element 22 is through formed to the rod 14 transverse portion, and is in a corresponding shaped, transversely extending recess defining the body-side anchoring point 18 ned, inserted.
- the rod 14 has an external thread 20, to which an adjusting nut 21 is screwed.
- the adjusting nut 21 is in a adjoining the groove-like recess 13, the adjusting nut 21 adapted Ausneh-30th 30 is inserted.
- the adjusting nut 21 engages around the saddle-side end of the rod 14 like a sleeve and has an internal hexagon 29 or other suitable actuating means on the front on to them with a suitable tool from the front end of the rod 14th to be able to press.
- an adjustment channel 26th intended.
- a circumferential groove 25 is provided, in the saddle-side anchoring means, which are designed here as a bracket 28, engage.
- the bracket 28 is fixed in the tension and compression direction of the rod 14 in the saddle side Anchoring point 17 held, which in the embodiment shown by an extension 33 of the recess 30 is formed.
- the curving wedge 16 On the inserted into the groove-like recess 13 of the neck body 11 rod 14 is a Curved wedge 16 launched, the curvature of the rod 14 in a curved To hold position.
- the curving wedge 16 is formed here from a wood chip whose Strength starting from a certain minimum thickness towards the middle up to a maximum increases and then decreases again.
- the curvature contour of the curving wedge 16 in the present embodiment substantially corresponds to the depth profile the groove-like recess 13, so that when placing a fingerboard 12 on the strings facing surface of the neck body 11 of the curving wedge 16 between the rod 14th and fingerboard 12 remaining space of the groove-like recess 13 substantially fills.
- the rod 14 is thus pressed on the bottom of the groove-like recess 13 and still remains loose.
- the plate-shaped steel inserts 23, 24 are with their preferred plane substantially perpendicular to the fingerboard 12 and run parallel to the neck.
- About the length, strength, positioning, type of Training and number of steel inserts can be the curvature of the neck preset when changing the effective length of the rod 14.
- Fig. 2 the neck body 11 and attached thereto top plate 27 in plan view shown. Clearly visible here is approximately centered groove-like recess 13, the end by the body side anchoring point 18 and the saddle side Anchoring point 17 is limited. At the saddle-sided anchoring point is the for the adjusting nut 21 provided recess 30 incorporated, the side an extension 33 for fixing the bracket 28 has.
- Fig. 3 is an exploded perspective view of the embodiment of the neck for Guitars or bass guitars shown in FIG. 1.
- the fingerboard 12 has a game surface 15, which later faces the strings (not shown).
- the adjustment means according to the invention is described with reference to FIGS to 3 illustrated embodiment understandable.
- the rod 14 acting in tension and compression direction in interaction with the curving wedge 16 the curvature of the neck body can be 11 adjust. If the neck is bent too much in the pulling direction of the strings, it causes a shortening the effective length of the rod 14 between the body side anchoring point 18 and the saddle-side anchoring point 17 that its curvature decreases and he essentially perpendicular to the fingerboard 12 acting compressive forces on the curving wedge 16 transmits.
- a Camber of the fingerboard 12 can also be reinforced.
- the effective length of the rod 14 between the body-side anchoring point 18th and the saddle-side anchoring point 17 is extended. This is done by pressing the Adjusting nut 21 such that the effective length of the rod 14 increases.
- the adjusting nut 21 is in the tension or compression direction of the rod 14 fixed in the saddle side Anchoring point fixed by a bracket 28, in an extension of the recess 30 is held.
- the neck body 11 is characterized by the plane of the strings curved away, causing the desired effect.
