- the "Print” symbol 428 implements the functionality, a selected document or route the composed document to the output device. By choosing this Icon appears preferably a dialog window that the user as an interface between the desktop 302 and the print server 120 and the output devices 122. This interface can make last minute changes to the output options enable immediately before the final production.
- the symbol calls preferably the Print File Downloader TM application from Heidelberg Digital, L.L.C. on.
- the options and functions can of course be used as symbols or menu options be trained - the preferred workflow management software supports everyone Possibilities. However, it is preferred that the symbols, menus, etc. are ergonomic and are arranged intuitively to the time required for familiarization as well as the To reduce the possibility of errors.
- the desktop component 302 also includes a hierarchical display window 430.
- a hierarchical display window 430 In FIG. 4 is shown an example of a hierarchical display window 430 in which one representative selection of objects and assignments is shown.
- This window 430 contains known standard elements for controlling the window such as B. Scroll bars 432.
- window 430 includes a representation of a hierarchy, under which all objects shown are arranged.
- the example window 430 includes a desktop object 442, which stands for the underlying object database, and the document objects 434, book objects 436 and ticket objects 438, all associated with tree structure 440 are.
- the tree structure stands for the underlying logical links between the data for which objects 434, 436 and 438 stand.
- Book object 436 labeled contains the "Document 2" and "Document 3" designated document objects 434.
- the document referred to as "Document 1" 434 is not linked to any other object.
- the objects can be opened and closed their attributes or the objects below in their hierarchy show or hide. Page objects that are for certain pages of a Document specified page properties can, for. B. under the hierarchy of the document in question are listed to an operator their presence visually display. The selection of the page object enables the operator to edit, the view or any other manipulation of the page property. For everyone for one specific document specified page property, a page object can be created.
- the display window 430 serves as an intuitive visual representation of the work being done on a Processing station 116 must be performed and completed. Everything stays simple and organized in an efficient manner, even if the operator has several different ones Opens and processes documents or orders.
- Fig. 5 shows an illustration of the Integration of the workflow management software described in the workflow of Printing house. 6 shows an alternative representation of the workflow management software described in the workflow of the print shop.
- the Workflow component 304 for automation and standardization of Process steps of the workflow provided.
- Belly Page tickets mobile page properties, visual page properties and the efficient one Utilization of the output devices.
- Side tickets are similar to job tickets, except that they are one Contain page object or multiple page objects, each a specific one Page property or a specific page attribute and the settings for it Include property or attribute.
- a side ticket serves as a kind Sump of various page formatting properties and attributes that already exist were explained in more detail.
- a side ticket offers a convenient and efficient method of Assignment of a page property or several page properties to a page or a page range in a document.
- the workflow management software includes the Functionality of the visual representation of side tickets on the desktop 302 the same way as other objects and allows creation and modification Page tickets and their link to documents or composite Documents.
- an operator can do the work in one Apply page properties included page ticket simply by using the page ticket on desktop 302 to a particular page or page range in the display 306 pulls. With this action, all the page properties contained in the page ticket are saved and their settings applied to the selected pages.
- You can e.g. B. a Define a page ticket, which is a left margin for a later binding process sets blue as the color of the paper to be used and determines that the page to be punched three times.
- a Page property is typically a specific page number in a document assigned and not to the page itself. If the page is somewhere else in the same or moved to another document, The page properties may not automatically moved with. Through the use of mobile page properties, the Page properties are linked to the page and are automatically moved as well. Mobile page properties are turned into an unused part of the print-ready Format codes registered. This is preferably done using the expandable Markup language (extensible mark-up language) XML as described in the description XML 1.0 is defined by the W3C XML Working Group, REC-XML-0210.
- the page properties remain separate from the document themselves, but stand alone visually on desktop 302 as page objects within the hierarchy of the document presented to provide an intuitive representation of the Presence of this property as well as intuitive access to the functionality to offer for editing and changing.
- the functionality of mobile page properties can be implemented independently of an object-oriented operator interface.
- the application of certain Page properties or document properties are visually represented in the display 306.
- the application of a side property for triple perforation means e.g. B. that in the visual representation of the selected pages three holes appear. This enables it Operator to see the results of the page property and, for example to decide whether the text of the page is too close to the perforation.
- the Page or document properties are visible on the display, they are in the way the printable format code is inscribed so that it will not be printed out if the document is sent to the output device.
- the logic that the visual representation who implements page and document properties preferably knows the properties and functions of the selected output device and knows z. B. that the automatic A printer's stapler along the left edge of the paper staples while other output device staples along the top edge. Therefore, logic decides where the Stitch for the selected output device must be displayed when the operator Page property "Staple" selects.
- the workflow management software contains one Functionality for efficient use of the various output devices under Taking into account the properties required for a particular order and the different operating costs. These include different properties Multi-color or black and white printing, the resolution and size of the paper. It z. B. increasingly colored pages with black and white pages in the same document combined. Of course, this places certain demands on the output device with which the Product is printed. If such a document is sent to a color printing device, so it is printed, but at a high cost, since color printing is usually more expensive than the black and white print. The print job, however, is sent to a black and white printer sent, it is relatively inexpensive, but the color pages are not printed in color.
- the job can now be split into two separate jobs by hand so that the colored pages face the color printer and the black and white pages be sent to the black and white printer and then the pages are ready for production Printed product are merged.
- this is a complicated process, though the product is to be produced in large numbers. It also makes insertion difficult a manual gathering process, the use of automated Processing systems.
- the operator has the option of viewing pages in one Mark the document when processing the print job so that it can be sent to a specific output device or processing device can be directed by the page specially defined page attribute is assigned.
- the attribute shows the desired ones or necessary properties of the output device to ensure that the page is printed with the desired result.
- the attribute can e.g. B. specify that a Color printing output device is desired or required. This enables the operator to certain pages to certain and optimize to the characteristics of the use various available output devices efficiently.
- Most of the Document is usually printed from an output device, while only a portion of the Pages to another device (e.g. a small number of multicolored pages in a predominantly black and white document).
- the operator also defines which Pages are part of the main part of the document and which pages are the exceptions form, which must be produced separately.
- the print server When the job is sent to the print server, the print server records it Labels / attributes and automatically redirects the pages to the appropriate one Output device.
- the print server includes a recipient who receives the document and send to distribution logic that reads the pages and the special page attributes interpreted.
- the distributor can be software, hardware, or a combination of both be trained and with data and properties of the different in the print shop available (internal and external) output devices.
- the distributor interprets the special attribute and tries to find a suitable output device that the desired or required properties for the production of the concerned Side.
- the distribution can be completely automatic or manual or as Combination of both can be done.
- the distributor can automatically or by manual intervention by an operator to make a decision as to who Page can be best printed.
- the distributor can set certain predetermined rules contain how certain property requests are handled.
- One of those rules can e.g. B. Provide that the entire document from a particular output device is printed and certain attributes of some pages are ignored.
- Another rule can determine that property requests must always be considered and the Pages are sent to output devices with the desired property.
- Furthermore can as a rule, that operator intervention is required when a page with a special property request passes the distributor so that the Operator chooses the best course of action.
- the print server saves most of the document, while the special pages are printed on a specific output device.
- the print server then signals to the operator that the special pages removed and inserted into the collating device of the output device that will print the main part of the document.
- the print server sends the bulk of the document to the Output device and instructs this, in the place of a special page, the required page of insert the inserted special pages.
- There are of course numerous Alternatives possible e.g. B. a mechanical connection between the output devices, which the finished products of one device to the collator of another Device transported to incorporate them in a main document. After that finished document is in an output device can in-line Processing equipment, e.g. B. stapler or other binding devices for Completion of the products can be used.
