- the present invention relates to a thread clamp for a rapier gripper of a rapier weaving machine with a clamping gap formed by a first and second clamping member for holding the weft thread, and a rapier weaving machine with thread clamp.
- Such thread clamps have the disadvantage that the contact areas between the clamping surface and the thread are small, as a result of which a strong local pressure is exerted on the thread. The result is that when the thread gripper is handed over to the slave gripper in the thread clamp, individual filaments remain in the clamping gap. This leads to visible defects in fabrics when continuous thread or twisted thread is processed.
- the invention has for its object to provide a thread clamp for a gripper, in which wefts with different diameters are securely held while avoiding the disadvantages mentioned.
- the advantages of the thread clamp according to the invention are the simple construction paired with a secure holding of the weft thread by elastic deformations of the weft thread and a partial wrap around one of the clamping members.
- the thread clamp essentially consists of a body 1 and a needle 2, which form a clamping gap 3 in order to hold a weft thread 4.

- the clamping and the clamping point 17 are determined by a friction force developing in the clamping gap, which is dependent on the tensile force acting on the yarn, the degree of deformation of the yarn and the degree of wrapping of the conical section 13 of the needle 2 (FIG. 3). Due to the deformation of the yarn 4 and the degree of wrapping of the yarn 4, the individual fibrils of the yarn are held on the conical section 13 of the needle 2.
- the clamping point 17 is located in such a way that a free gap section is present between the clamped yarn and the gap base.
- This free gap section forms a free space for individual fibrils or fibers which are pulled along when the yarn is pulled out. This prevents yarn flight from remaining in the nip. This choice allows also keep yarns of different diameters in the same thread clamp.
- the needle 2 is arranged displaceably with respect to the body 1.
- a leaf spring 18 is fastened to section 7 of body 1 by means of a screw 19.
- the leaf spring 18 has a bent section 20, the edge of which is intended to bear against the end face of the stop section 11.
