Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a thread clamp for a rapier gripper of a rapier weaving machine with a clamping gap formed by a first and second clamping member for holding the weft thread, and a rapier weaving machine with thread clamp.
  • Such thread clamps have the disadvantage that the contact areas between the clamping surface and the thread are small, as a result of which a strong local pressure is exerted on the thread. The result is that when the thread gripper is transferred to the slave gripper in the thread clamp, individual filaments remain in the clamping gap. This leads to visible defects in fabrics when continuous thread or twisted thread is processed.
  • a thread clamp according to the preamble of claim 1 is known from EP-A-0 207 533.
  • the invention has for its object to provide a thread clamp for a gripper, in which wefts with different diameters are securely held while avoiding the disadvantages mentioned.
  • the advantages of the thread clamp according to the invention are the simple construction paired with a secure holding of the weft thread by elastic deformations of the weft thread and a partial wrap around one of the clamping members.
  • the thread clamp essentially consists of a body 1 and a needle 2, which form a clamping gap 3 in order to hold a weft thread 4.
  • the body has a section 5 for receiving the needle 2, which has a convex region 6 at the front end and merges into a section 7 at the other end in order to fasten the body 1 from the top to a gripper housing (not shown).
  • a bore 8 is provided in the body 1, the peripheral surface of which forms a surface 9 delimiting the clamping gap 3.
  • the bore 8 is formed obliquely with respect to the underside of the body in such a way that the outlet opening adjoins the convex region 6 of the body 1 (FIG. 3).
  • the needle has a circular cross-sectional shape.
  • the needle 2 contains a first section 11 with which the needle 2 is fixed to the body 1, a second section 12 adjoining the first section 11 with which the needle 2 is mounted in the body 1 and one to the second section 12 Adjacent conical section 13, which tapers towards the free end and whose lateral surface forms the other surface 14 delimiting the clamping gap 3.
  • the needle 2 arranged in the through bore 8 is locked by an organ 15.
  • a spring (not shown) is provided which holds the member 15 in the locking position shown in FIG. 2. By pressing in the direction of arrow A, the organ 15 is moved against the spring force into a release position in which the needle 2 can be replaced or exchanged.
  • the needle 2 is arranged in the through-hole in such a way that the conical section 13 on the underside of the body protrudes and extends over the convex region 6 of the body 1.
  • this arrangement forms the clamping gap 3 and an inlet gap 16 preceding it.
  • the clamping gap 3 is limited on the one hand by the wall of the through hole 8 and on the other hand by the lateral surface of the conical section 13 of the needle 2. This creates a clamping gap with a curved cross-sectional shape with a continuously decreasing width in the effective direction and a continuously increasing cross-sectional contour.
  • the yarn 4 When the yarn is introduced into the nip 3, the yarn 4 is deformed, with a deformation of the yarn cross section due to the narrowing nip and a looping of the needle 2 due to the increasing cross-sectional contour of the nip occurring.
  • the clamping and the clamping point 17 are determined by a frictional force developing in the clamping gap, which is dependent on the tensile force acting on the yarn, the degree of deformation of the yarn and the degree of wrap of the conical section 13 of the needle 2 (FIG. 3). Due to the deformation of the yarn 4 and the degree of wrapping of the yarn 4, the individual fibrils of the yarn are held on the conical section 13 of the needle 2.
  • the clamping point 17 is located in such a way that a free gap section is present between the clamped yarn and the gap base.
  • This free gap section forms a free space for individual fibrils or fibers which are pulled along when the yarn is pulled out. This prevents yarn flight from remaining in the nip. This choice allows also keep yarns of different diameters in the same thread clamp.
  • the needle 2 is arranged displaceably with respect to the body 1.
  • a leaf spring 18 is fastened to section 7 of body 1 by means of a screw 19.
  • the leaf spring 18 has a bent section 20, the edge of which is intended to bear against the end face of the stop section 11.
  • the needle 6 can be replaced or exchanged if the section is brought into a release position by pressure in the direction of the arrow A.
  • FIG. 5 shows cross-sectional shapes of the conical section 13 of the needle 2, the peripheral surfaces of which form a surface delimiting the clamping gap 3.
  • This surface can be a cylindrical surface, the generatrix of which is a straight line, or a surface formed from flat partial surfaces.
  • FIG. 6 shows the arrangement of a thread clamp in a rapier head of a rapier weaving machine.
